General introduction:
Flux refining is the old but the most common way of refining magnesium and magnesium scrap.
The flux used for cleaning the underlying metal of impurities is called Refining flux.
1)The main purpose of refining flux is to agglomerate nonmetallic inclusions and break apart and pile up oxide particles.
2)With adding weighting agent to make the flux gravity higher than melt. This causes better mixing with the liquid magnesium and produces a higher refining efficiency.
3)It begins slowly sink when adding into the melt with dissolving and absorbing the oxides and gases. It plays an important role in improving the quality of magnesium and magnesium alloy castings.
Instructions:
1)Adding flux to the melt surface, stirring the flux with a lance to ensure the maximum contact between the flux and magnesium metal.
2)After the desired inclusions got. Stopped stirring and allowed to settle out and collect at the bottom of the crucible as sludge.
3)Removal of the sludge from the bottom periodically.

Main raw materials function:
The combination of magnesium and potassium chlorides provides the low melting eutectic，while the fluoride provides the surface wettability and chemical reactivity with magnesium oxide to cause sufficient removal. MgO increases the viscosity of flux.The barium compound provides the density requirement for the salt to effectively mix with the magnesium and then settle out at the bottom of the crucible.
