As the main component of Refractory, the amount of refractory aggregate is 60% -73% , and the amount of refractory powder is 15% -40% , which have a significant effect on the performance of Refractory. So what are some of the ingredients used in common Refractory?
Bauxite clinker bauxite clinker is made of bauxite calcined at high temperature, its Al2O3 content is generally more than 50% . In amorphous Refractory, it is common to process bauxite into refractory aggregate and powder. High quality bauxite clinker should be selected as refractory aggregate and powder for use in important parts or in direct contact with hot metal and hot metal thermal equipment.
Second, clay raw materials, clay raw materials and refractory clay, divided into hard clay and soft clay and semi-soft clay. Hard Clay is mostly kaolinite single mineral type precipitated clay, generally need to be calcined into clay clinker before use. Semi-siliceous raw materials such as natural pyrophyllite and siliceous kaolin are semi-acidic Refractory. Pyrophyllite can be used to make ladle lining bricks or as aggregate for Refractory. It can be used either directly or after calcination. When silica kaolin is used as refractory aggregate and powder, it is mainly used in middle and low temperature.
4. Siliceous raw materials siliceous raw materials have crystalline silica, cementitious silica and gangue quartz and so on, collectively referred to as silica. For Refractory silica, the content of SIO2 should be more than 96% . When making amorphous Refractory from siliceous materials, waste silica bricks should be added as refractory aggregate and powder, or mineralizers such as ferrites should be added to form a certain liquid phase to buffer the stress produced as a result of crystallization deformation, at the same time, it can promote the transformation of quartz to the stable scale quartz and square quartz.
5. Magnesite-based raw materials magnesite-based raw materials are magnesite, dolomite, forsterite and serpentine, are alkaline, also known as alkaline refractory materials.
Kyanite group minerals raw materials kyanite group minerals are formed by metamorphosis of native clay precipitates. The kyanite group minerals produced after calcination are high-quality raw materials for Refractory, it is also a high-quality raw material for high-alumina refractory products.
Mullite mullite is generally synthetic, the production process has sintering method and electric fusion two methods. It is widely used in the Refractory industry due to its high purity, low creep rate, low thermal expansion, good thermal shock resistance and strong chemical resistance.
Corundum is usually made from industrial alumina or bauxite after sintering or electrofusion. Using bauxite as raw material, corundum can be obtained; adding iron filings can produce brown corundum; adding zircon or zirconia can produce zirconia corundum; adding other minerals can improve the properties of corundum. At present, corundum used as refractory aggregate and powder is more and more, and the effect is remarkable.
Industrial alumina industrial alumina is produced by Bayer process with bauxite as raw material. It can be used as refractory powder or superfine powder.
10. Spinel material spinel refers to all belong to the spinel group of minerals, but the narrow sense of spinel refers to magnesium and aluminum spinel. Magnesia-alumina spinel has strong structure, high melting point, small thermal expansion, low thermal stress, good thermal shock resistance and strong alkali resistance. The spinel Refractory industry, after sintering and electrofusion, is growing rapidly.
In addition, Refractory raw materials are silicon carbide, silicon nitride, chromite, zircon, these raw materials are mainly used in advanced Refractory. Other raw materials such as hollow spheres (alumina, zirconia hollow spheres, floating beads) , porous clinker, porous mullite, ceramsite, expanded perlite, expanded vermiculite, etc. , can be used as lightweight aggregate in Refractory.
